JENNIFER M. BABOUNAKIS

Prior to attending law school, Jennifer practiced as a clinical social worker with a focus in family counseling and crisis management. As a law student, Mrs. Babounakis served as both Chief Aide to Professor Nadine Strossen, the then President of the American Civil Liberties Union, and as an Associate Editor to the New York Law School Law Review. After law school, Mrs. Babounakis practiced law for five years at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton, LLP in Washington D.C. Her practice there focused on investigations, public interest and commercial litigation, and immigration law, including an asylum appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

In December 2009, Mrs. Babounakis joined ROOP XANTTOPOULOS BABOUNAKIS PLLC to blend her expertise in family counseling, corporate law, and litigation. Mrs. Babounakis prefers to reach favorable outcomes for her clients out of court. She has the skills, however, to litigate if trial is necessary to ensure her client’s interests are best served. Mrs. Babounakis finds her corporate law experience invaluable when assessing complex equitable distribution issues, such as property valuation and division.

Jennifer draws on her family counseling experience to help her clients manage the emotional experiences that are often present in family law cases. She also benefits from a strong understanding of the mental health and substance abuse issues that plague many families going through divorce. As a mother of two young children, Mrs. Babounakis has command of the parenting issues that are important in most child custody matters.

Mrs. Babounakis is a native of Northern Virginia. Her husband is a lawyer with Arnold & Porter, LLP. They have two daughters and live in Northern Virginia.
